Join us for the Regina launch of Policing Black Lives, Robyn Maynard’s newest book, which looks at the history and present of the Canadian state’s injustices against Black people – from slavery to prisons to violence against Black women and trans people.
The event will be held at Camp: Justice for Our Stolen Children, in front of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building.
Robyn’s talk will be followed by a panel of local activists discussing the policing of Black and brown people in Saskatchewan.
The camp is partially wheelchair-accessible (near the sidewalk and road), and we will be working to set up the event to make it as accessible as possible. Please contact us if you have specific accessibility requests.
Robyn Maynard is a Black feminist writer, grassroots community organizer and intellectual based in Montréal.
Delving behind Canada’s veneer of multiculturalism and tolerance, Policing Black Lives traces the violent realities of anti-blackness from the slave ships to prisons, classrooms and beyond. Robyn Maynard provides readers with the first comprehensive account of nearly four hundred years of state-sanctioned surveillance, criminalization and punishment of Black lives in Canada. https://fernwoodpublishing.ca/book/policing-black-lives
