Moni Brar
Moni Brar was born in rural Punjab, raised on the land of the Tse’Khene peoples, and has worked in 14 countries. Hailing from a long lineage of illiterate subsistence farmers, she spends much of her time contemplating land, loss, language, and longing. She is the recipient of the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award and a Banff Centre residency, the winner of The Fiddlehead’s Poetry Prize, and a finalist for the Montreal International Poetry Prize. She has multiple nominations for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net and has received awards from Grain, PRISM, Room, CV2, and The Ex-Puritan. Her work appears in Best Canadian Poetry, Canadian Literature, The Literary Review of Canada, and Hobart. She is an alum of Tin House, the Humber School of Writers, and Harvard University. Her chapbook, Migrant Wish, was recently published by Sundress. She believes art contains the possibility of healing.
