NPR Affiliate Cancels Interview with Stephen Kimber, book "too incendiary"

As any of you who follow our books and our authors likely know, Stephen Kimber, author of What Lies Across the Water: The Real Story of the Cuban Five, is wrapping up a week of speaking engagements on the US East Coast (including last night’s appearance at MIT with Noam Chomsky).

On September 17, Stephen was scheduled to speak on Topical Currents on WLRN,  a popular radio station in southern Florida and an affiliate of NPR. Everything was scheduled and lined-up. Due to Stephen’s travel dates, the station arranged for him to do the interview live from a sister station in Boston.

Late in the night of September 16, Stephen received an email from WLRN, stating that Topical Currents host and executive producer Joseph Cooper decided the book and topic was too “incendiary” and that he feared a negative reaction from listeners.

The interview was cancelled less than 24 hours before it was supposed to happen.
