Custom textbooks from Fernwood Publishing are for instructors and professors who want to hand-select material for their students from every Fernwood Publishing title. Teaching a course on Crime in Canada? Canadian public policy? Indigenous social work? Labour unions in Canada? Racism and the law? We have content on a huge range of topics in the social sciences and humanities that can be combined to fit your course.
How It Works
We will compile individual chapters from any title we’ve previously published and produce a professionally printed and bound book to be used in your course. No photocopies and no coiled binding. You need only provide us with the titles of the chapters from our books that you want to use. Because the material is already published by us, we can create these custom texts quickly and cost effectively. We’re happy to provide examination copies if you need a closer look.
Please note: Custom textbooks are meant to be a compilation of diverse materials into one whole, as such we require materials to be drawn from a minimum of three sources.
We have the most content in the following categories, but feel free to browse and select chapters from our entire list:
- Crime & Law
- Social Work
- Indigenous Studies
- Women & Feminism
- Labour & Unions
- Race & Racism
- Canadian Politics
- Public Policy
If you need some assistance choosing material, please contact us at editorial@fernpub.ca.
The Fine Print
We need at least six months notice prior to the course start date to create your custom textbook. We do require a minimum number of enrolled students to create the book. Retail price is based on the number of students enrolled in the course and length of the book.

Previously Published Custom Textbooks
You can also use any previously published custom textbooks in your course. All custom textbooks are available to order through your institution’s bookstore, and examination copies are available upon request.
